Rest in Peace Grandpa Nacho

Yesterday we went to Grandpa Nachos burial service. It's been 1 year since I was last at the cemetery with Callie. We last went on Mexican Mother's Day last year.
It was a nice day with a breeze blowing. The service was very nice. Tio Bogar has such a talent for finding the perfect words. All of the family came from near and far. Some of the songs we sang I immediately recognized from Grandmas service and were comforting as if Grandma was waiting to welcome him back. Tia Mari put together photos of Nacho and all his family. The photos were really perfect and several captured his funny side especially when he would open his mouth wide and make a what's up noise that was similar to the old Budweiser commercial. Nacho always made me laugh and had a smile on his face. I think in the last year he only looked for me for Callie as he loved that baby. Even before she was born he would rub my belly and make rocking a baby gestures.
As I sat and listened to everyone speak I took in the great love this family has. Yes it was a love for Nacho but beyond that, it's a love of their family. They are a very cohesive unit. They support each other and stick together no matter what. For the 6 years I have lived here they have dedicated a huge part of their lives to caring for grandma and grandpa around the clock. Pretty incredible people to make this fit into their busy lives.

When it was time to say goodbye we threw roses into the hole. I gave mine to Callie and she walked over to the hole but she didn't want to throw hers in! She had a tight grip on it and we had to pry it out of her hand. Then she became obsessed with the floral arrangements, she was pulling the flowers out. I blame this on Enrique as he taught her to pick all the flowers and pull the petals off at his house. Here is Callie playing with the flowers.

Rest in peace Grandpa, make sure to keep watching over Callie from up there and tell Grandma we say hello and we miss her too. Lots of love.

Genius baby works for blueberries

My baby is so smart. What baby do you know that loves blueberries so much that she can find them by color even when hidden? Mine!
The video says it all and I swear we didn't cheat, she is that good!

Grandpa Enrique and Callie BBQ

Callie loves to BBQ with her grandpa. If he goes out she wants to go too! Hopefully she learns to cook from the Chavez family :)

More homemade items, can you guess?

Before you guess what I made I have an LT update. Today we went to the cardiologist for a echocardiogram. The vet determined that he does indeed have mitral valve problems that cause blood to leak out back out of his left chamber instead of being sent out to the body. This causes the fluid to build up in his lungs, his heart to work harder and this is also causing his heart to enlarge. So with an extra large heart and valve issues he has a double whammy. The vet says that he has end stage congestive heart failure and that at this point we are to focus on quality of life. Her estimate is that he has about a year to live, maybe 2 if he does well but considering the rate of decline so far she doesn't think it's likely. He is very young to have CHF at not 6 years she feels that it is likely bad genes which we already assumed due to the multiple other congenital issues he has. The breeder he came from is terrible is the bottom line. She changed his lasix to half a dose in the evening hoping to help with his peeing on the floor and said if that doesn't help then she recommends doggy diapers. I can't imagine he'd  like that. I told her we already took out all the carpet for our dogs so its not as bad. The new, education she added is elanapril , an ACE inhibitor that will help keep his blood pressure low and should help make it easier for his heart to pump blood. So not really good news, but I am thankful they are trying at least something to make his life a little better. She also said give him whatever he wants to eat, so table food, scraps, anything he will eat is fair game for the rest of his life since he isn't very hungry anyways. So looks like he will live like a king for whatever time he has left. He still needs follow up blood work and monitoring because of his multiple medications so the bills will keep coming for now. Lots of love and spoiling for LT coming right up :)

Now on to my regular post....

Can you guess what I made out of these ingredients?

Did you guess lotion/butt cream? If you did you are close...I made that first but then added what's in the white bag to the left, zinc oxide. Now do you know? It's sunscreen!
Callie had an odd reaction to the organic chemical free sunscreen I bought online that was expensive so I decided to make my own. It seems good but we need a sunny day to try it out for sure.
Saving money, avoiding chemicals and yucky stuff and still getting protected from the sun,... Triple check! What can I conquer next?

Sushi Loco

We decided to take Callie out for dinner tonight. We went to Sushi Loco our local sushi restaurant since they serve food Callie can eat and likes. We ordered her a kids meal with chicken and rice (her favorite) and a side of edamame. Callie ate almost the whole kids meal and she is just a baby still. She loved it, especially the white sticky rice. She even tried using chopsticks :) ill teach her someday since she loves rice so much.

In memory of Great Grandpa Nacho

Great Grandpa Nacho has been sick for the last few weeks. Today he passed away to find his way to heaven to rejoin with his loving wife. We went to say our good byes yesterday with Callie and Juan went back today. We also visited him a few times in the past few weeks. It is a very sad time but he lived a full life and had tons of family who loved him dearly. We choose to remember the good times and how much Grandpa Nacho loved Callie. Even on the bad days he always would smile when you would see Callie. Here are the photos I have of them together over the past year. I am so glad we have these photos so we can tell Callie stories and show her photos of her and we great grandpa. We know he will be watching over her from above with Great Grandma with lots of love and protection.

Happy Graduation!

Sorry for the delayed post but I was exhausted last night. We celebrated Jeana and Christian graduating rom college yesterday. We attended Christian's graduation ceremony in the morning and then to their huge bash all afternoon. Callie was having a ball with all the people, food, music, and fun. We are very proud of our graduates :) Callie has some smart god parents.
We stayed past Callie's bedtime partying. When we finally went home she was so tired she alternated between crying and falling asleep. She went right to bed when we got home and then I fell asleep too. She was really tired because she slept in today until almost 7 am.
What a great party! Congrats to Jeana and Christian and welcome to the not so fun world of full time jobs and responsibility.
