Goof balls

I can only seem to get crazy photos.. Maybe it's the heat. 100 degrees today and windy. It was hot even at the beach! Callie's poses are very interesting. Where does she get this spunk?
Yesterday all three kids were being nuts laying on top of Juan and super wild.

Callie and Isla

We went to an octoberfest party today with Isla. Yes I'm aware it's still Sept. We swam in the pool, played ring toss and festival games, jumped in a bouncy house and rode ponies. We had FUN! And Callie has been drawing some awesome art. She made a photo for Isla before we went with house and people in the windows and wrote Callie and Isla. The other is a drawing of her and Diego on the swings. Super cute. You may note the circles on the side... I asked about those. "Manny poop" she says HaHaHa!

Enjoying the new backyard

We went to visit our friends and played in their brand new back yard! How about this green grass! And yes it's impossible to get a photo of 4 kids together smiling.

A girl and her daddy

This photo was actually from Friday but it never fit anywhere so today's a good day for it. Callies been busy dressing up her American girl doll. She picked this dress out at the baby resale store and we altered it to fit better. She didn't nap and was tired so when daddy got home from work also tired and they quietly sat together on the couch they both fell asleep. A fancy doll and a fancy dressed girl on daddy's lap. This is truly Callies happy place:)

Hanging like a monkey

Callies been getting creative with her hanging upside down on the playground. I keep encouraging her that she should do gymnastics as she'd love it but she insists she does not want to. She's a monkey!

Old Poway Park trains

Callie went on a special girls outing for nails and lunch with Grandma, Eliana, Tia Nena and Mariah. I figured Diego should get to do something special too since he is always the one just tagging along on adventures chosen by his sister. I thought we would try the trains at Old Poway Park. Unfortunately it was a hot day which made this not as enjoyable for me but we still had fun. We walked the park, saw the trains that were just for show and rode the cable car. Each weekend day they run a different kind of train. We just happened on the cable car day. It's really quite a cool thing and if we lived closer we would probably go almost every weekend for a quick ride around the park.

Tia Nena Birthday Party

Birthdays bring a lot of celebration in our family so it's no surprise that we had a big bash for Tia Nena today. Balloons, piñatas, singing and dancing. The kids danced for hours all the way until dark. I'm sure the sugar from the piñata candy and the cake gave them enough energy ;)

Diego even played drums with Tio Bo and Callie made tortillas on her mini press with Tia Mari. Callies mini tortillas were super cute and she was surprisingly good at it!
Happy Birthday Tia Nena! We love you and are so glad you were here in SD to celebrate.

Ladybugs!

Callie saw that they sell ladybugs at the nursery when we were buying milkweed. I insisted we couldn't buy them as they need bugs to eat or else they all just fly away. Well our milkweed got lots of aphids. She was so excited so we could actually get ladybugs. Now this wasn't necessary as you cut back the milkweed in the fall anyways and all the aphids would be gone too. But for fun we got the ladybugs in a jar for our yard.
Callie is a bug lover. She is totally fine touching the bugs. There were 1500 in this little ice cream pint container we bought. Diego on the other hand was frightened of them and when one flew on him he freaked out. What other fun big projects can we have in our yard?

Happy Birthday Tia Nena

Tia Nena has arrived for the weekend to celebrate her birthday. Callie gave her such a big hug when she got here! Diego woke up from nap time saying Happy Birthday Tia Nena. There was enough love for Tia that I even got some photos!

Back from Vegas

Jeez I've been back from Vegas for several days now but just couldn't get myself back into the swing of things. Something about a nice rest makes you forget all your routine things. This week I forgot things at home all 3 days I had to work! And I forgot about the blog. It was kinda nice though so I'm considering backing off on the blog a bit, maybe a few days a week or only for the really good photos. Here's a few from Vegas...

Off the radar

I'm going off the radar for a few days on a very much needed mommies weekend away to Vegas. I'll be back Monday night hopefully feeling relaxed and rejuvenated!
You won't see any posts from me until Tuesday at least. Don't worry I'm sure all is ok I just won't be around to tell you ;)

Diego finally holds a butterfly...sort of

Diego has been intrigued by the butterflies and caterpillars all the time but refused to hold the butterfly. He was scared of it. So Callie and I devised this method on a stick so he could finally hold it. He said it had spider legs, which is accurate in his mind as they look similar. We only have 1 monarch left to release and it may just hatch while I am gone this weekend. So this may be the last of our monarch photos for the year. Its been fun!

Thumbs Up

Awhile ago I realized that Diego can't do thumbs up. Whenever you give him thumbs up he gives you pointed finger up. He doesn't even realize he isn't doing it right. We've been trying to teach him the right way but it's so funny and cute I had to get it on video so we can remind him when he's big. Here he is learning.

Hanging on

Still battling sickness. Diego actually seems worse today :(
I took out my nice camera to take some photos of Callie with her butterflies released today but they were so ready to fly away as soon as we opened the cage they flew out! No holding these ones on your hand. They were so fast we couldn't do anything with them. So instead since camera in hand I took a few of them in their hanging skills. Callie stayed for 11 seconds today! And Diego was more concerned about his new shoes. His forst pair of Jordan's make him feel pretty cool.
We have two chrysalis left to hatch and then that's it for our butterfly season.
Yesterday we had two emerge that were deformed. I had a bad feeling about them before as their chyrsalises were misshapen. I hoped they would emerge ok but nope. They came out and fell from hanging multiple times and could not be saved. One was with a badly mangled wing and the other just couldn't use its legs to stand or hold on. This is likely from a parasite they got eating milkweed and happens. Callie and I tried to make a positive out of a negative (she cried they were going to die). We humanly euthanized them by placing in the freezer. We are keeping the less malformed one and mounting it in a shadow box for the wall. Creepy or cool? I liked the idea and so did Callie.
