FedEx Girl Callie

Callie loves getting packages in the mail. I tend to order a lot from Amazon so she gets to open packages frequently. She doesn't even care what is inside. She mostly likes to open the box and take things out. It's more about the process then the contents. So she helps carry them in and open them. Today there was a smaller box and she wanted to hold it but it was heavy. Here she is carrying around the box. Silly girl.

Water Fountain Fun

This weekend we took callie to the Otay Ranch mall that has a sprinkler area for kids. I brought her here before on a Monday but they were not turned on. I was pretty sure she would like it but I didn't expect her to be obsessed with it like she was. She dove right in. At first she would get upset when the water got in her face. She would panic close her eyes then run to find me. After awhile he wasn't even phased. She played for 20 minutes and then I told her it was time to go as we had other errands still and it was close to nap time. She cried and threw a fit because she didn't want to leave. Guess we will have to go back again soon and we need a sprinkler at least for our house. I would have gotten better video and photos but I had to put my phone away because I was getting wet too!!

In Memory of Great Grandma

Today is the 2 year anniversary of the death of Juan's grandmother Maria Rosas. We all went to the grave site to visit with family, remember her and pray. It is easy for me to remember when the anniversary is because it was right before I got pregnant. The last thing she had said to me was where is your little girl? It seems pretty incredible that after all I went though she could say this before I was even pregnant. I truly believe she had something to do with us being blessed with Callie. We are incredibly blessed with this amazing little girl and she is named after this very special lady. We miss her a lot and wish she could be here to spend time with us but we know that she is watching us from above and protecting all of us, especially Callie Maria.
Here are a few photos from our visit to her grave today. Callie was very much into the flowers and the pinwheel flower.

Supporting the MDA

The San Diego MDA (muscular dystrophy association) has an annual fundraiser at the embarcadero with live music, chili cook off, BBQ, and local brewery beers on tap. It's a fun event and the money goes to a great cause. The event is held in connection with a Padres baseball game as well. This year was a little different as we went with Callie. Previously it was about trying every single beer and every chili until the game started. Today was much more laid back. We only tried a few beers and we chased around a 1 year old. Callie had a lot of fun. She played with Dimitri and his soccer ball. She also chased the pigeons and seagulls for a looong time. She found a dog and pet him and gave him a kiss. Then she discovered a big pile of ice from the beer coolers and played in the Ice until she was dirty and wet. We only stayed a few hours but boy was I tired. I was constantly trying to keep up with Callie and keep her from getting in too much trouble. We didn't stay for the baseball game as Callie was too tired by then but we still had a good time enjoying the music and the great scenery on the bay as well. Callie fell asleep on the car ride home and that's how you know she wore herself and us out!

Callie in a cooler

Tonight I came home late as I did a favor for a friend in need after work. I made it home in time to say goodnight and spend a few minutes with Callie. I was thankful to see her at least for a few minutes. I love that little lady. Juan snapped these photos at grandma and grandpas house before dinner. Callie was sitting and playing in the cooler that is part of Enrique's outdoor kitchen. Callie in a cooler? Ha ha

Coloring

Callie enjoys coloring now. She really likes markers and pens compared to crayons as they take less pressure and she noticed they write on more things including skin! I like this magnetic doodle pad that we got as a baby shower gift from my coworker Sharon. She is an OT and just like she said Callie has taken to using it. She demonstrates her digital pronated grasp which is a step towards learning to write and color. This is an improvement from just her regular grasp and smudge with thumbs pointed up. Also we have noticed that he seems to be left handed. She almost always uses her left hand and has more success with coloring, putting objects in small openings and feeding herself all with the left hand. I recall when she was just a few months old saying I thought she might be a lefty. I posted a video of her batting at her toys. I think that prediction may come true. Guess we will see with time as handedness (hand preference) is determined around 3 years old. I just keep reminding myself that while its tough to cut left handed you are more likely to be a genius and to be much more creative than everyone else. I already think she is a genius :)
