Tummy time

We are working on tummy time to help stretch and strengthen Callie's neck muscles. Today we tried it on our monkey mat, thanks Leighton family. Check out how strong she is, lifting her head up already. Her little monkey butt outfit matches her mat too. :)

Two Weeks Old

Today Callie is 2 weeks old! She is opening her eyes more and has been awake more often. She also has been extremely fussy and awake screaming most nights. Let's hope it's a growth spurt and short lived, cross your fingers for me.

Belly Button

Callie lost her belly button today! It's been hanging on by a thread but I resisted the urge to pull it off (mostly bc Juan wouldn't let me). And now it finally fell off. It's a pretty amazing thing how the body works and all the hard work that cord did the last 9 months. Here is a slightly gross photo of the stub and a super cute belly button that was underneath! I think it looks like mine, sort of half innie half outie.

Doggie Health Woes

Callie and I made our first outing with a pup and no daddy to help us. We had to go to the vet with Manny as he had a seizure in the middle of the night Wednesday. It was really scary and hard to manage a crying baby and a seizing dog on zero sleep. So today we were off to the vet so Manny could get checked out. Callie was an angel and slept the whole time in her baby wrap again. This wrap thing is working out really well so I have free hands and a sleeping baby. I was able to walk Manny and carry all our stuff. Manny has to have a bunch of tests to be sure he doesn't have any underlying issues causing them and then we will just watch him. As long as the seizures are infrequent we will just watch him but if they are frequent we will medicate him.
So we have been snuggling together to console poor Manny, just me, Callie and Manny relaxing and snuggled up in the couch. We are hoping Manny gets a clean bill of health and doesn't need to be medicated. In the meantime we are just giving him all our love.

Callie's First Baby Friend

Callie got a visit from her first baby friend Dimitri today. Dimitri is the adorable 6 month old son of my friend Kristen. Callie wasn't very social and she slept through most of the visit. Dimitri though was quite intrigued with her and really wanted to check her out. Likewise LT was very interested in Dimitri. We hope they will grow up and be close friends :) thanks for coming to visit us.

Baby Wearing Mama

Callie was diagnosed with mild torticollis at birth from having her head stuck in my pelvis for too long without being able to move. Torticollis happens when the muscles of the neck become too tight and do not allow the head to rotate and tilt to the side correctly. It's a condition that is typically treated with stretching in home daily and if needed physical therapy. Lucky for Callie she has me for a mommy and I am fully prepared and qualified to fix her little neck. The pediatrician recommended we not use the carseat except in the car which means I am now a baby wearing mama. Anywhere we take her we need to carry her, and the pediatrician recommended the Moby wrap which forces the baby to rotate the neck while being carried, 2 birds one stone if you will. Well being the crafty person I am I realized that this wrap is just a long piece of stretchy fabric. I decided I could make my own just as good if not better than the store bought version. So here is my first trial at the wrap. I am planning on having a basic and a deluxe (deluxe to come later). Callie loved it when I used it for the first time at lunch today and passed out the entire time I walked around and slept in there even while I was eating! I call it a success!

Goldilocks

Callie seems to be playing goldilocks. I want her to sleep in her bassinet but every night she seems to try a new bed. One night I can get her to sleep in the bassinet all night and the next I can't get her to sleep anywhere, then the next only in my bed with me and Juan. We will keep trying to get her in the bassinet for full nights but I eventually get exhausted enough and just fall asleep in my bed with her. Any great ideas on how to get her to sleep in her own bed?
