Pool time with GiJu Marge and Jon

We crashed the hotel pool at Marge and Jon's hotel today. It was a hot day so the pool felt great. Callie had lots of fun splashing around. D was enjoying the water until I moved out to take his photo then he started with the crying. Callie has been having so much fun with her visitors and is just in heaven playing with her GiJu and all the toys she brought. Tomorrow we are going to visit the zoo!

Hullabaloo with friends

This morning I took the kids to see Hulabaloo kids songs sung live at the Racho Bernardo winery. They also had a farmers market and as a bonus we got some wine to drink. The kids weren't too wowed by the singing. Callie was very interested and watched closely but didn't get down and participate and dance with the other kids. She sat on a chair and ate snacks like an adult. D seemed to enjoy the music and was a happy little camper.
And the other photos are of Callie making fruit kabobs with grapes, her new favorite way to eat fruit!
GiJu Marge and Jon arrived today so lots more in photos coming soon.

Two teeth

Diego's second tooth has come in. Its been a rough few nights where he cant sleep well and just wants to be held and nurse but the tooth is finally through the gum. Now I am hoping it settles down for a little bit. He also has this new strange rash on his cheeks. I am hoping its a teething rash from all the drooling and then rubbing his face on the blankets but it also reminds me of Callie's beginning allergy rash, which makes me more nervous. Guess we just keep watching it and see what happens to find out what is causing it. Here are a few photos I snapped earlier in the week on my camera of the two kids. No fancy clothes or set up and limited cooperation means not the best 6 month photos still. I still feel like I need to get some better photos for his 6 month shoot, so I will try this weekend.

Swinging

Diego likes Callie's baby swing outside. We thought Callie was going to love it when Grandpa made it for her but turns out swinging is not very fun for her. Diego though loves to swing and I think this will be a winner for him! Here he is barely staying upright smiling away while Callie pushes him.
This was this weekend when he was still happy. I think he has a second tooth coming in and he's miserable again. Not sleeping well, snotty nose crying even when held. Ugh mommy's exhausted! When does the happy calm baby time arrive?

Fall Back

It was fitting that for fall back daylight savings time we went to the Pumpkin Patch, on the very last day it was open. Callie had been asking all month and I just never got around to bringing her, so we made it for the last day. I thought it was a little cheesy and sure a rip off but she loved it, so all is well.
Neither kid has adjusted to say
Isn't savings time well. Both wake up even earlier than usual, before the clock even says 5 am. Diego is in meltdown mode at 5 pm wanting to go to bed. Yikes, it's going to be a week of adjustment. To help Callie we are setting her owl glowing alarm clock 15 min later each day until she learns to get up an hour later. So much for gaining an hour, I think I just gained some grey hair and maybe an eye wrinkle from lack of sleep.

6 months old... Half a year!

Today Diego turned 6 months old. Let me start off by saying this is not where I thought we would be at 6 months. I told myself that by 6 months he would have outgrown all this crying, puking and sleep issues, would be sleeping through the night (mostly) and in his own room Instead he is still fussy, puking, crying and up all night and in my room. I am waiting for the switch to flip for him to become a happy calm baby. He still wants to be held a lot and is not very independent. He is starting to play in his jumper and exersaucer a bit but not nearly enough. He is finally starting to enjoy solids after a full month of trying off and on. Yesterday I let him try sweet potato puffs (like mini baby cereal) and he liked them. He occasionally made a face when he had trouble swallowing a bigger piece but he did really well with them.
So what can D do at 6 months?
Sit by himself for about 30 seconds
Roll over, but usually only in his bed to his stomach and he tends to just cry rather than roll when left on the floor to play.
He also just learned to push himself backwards. Like a backwards crawl. He pushes up on his arms extended and since the floor is slippery he slides backwards.
He can hold toys in his hands and is able to grab things pretty accurately. He stuck his hand in my hotdog ketchup last week and always is trying to steal food off my plate. His second favorite things to grab are the remote and cell phone.
His legs are strong, he can stand up for awhile if you hold his hands to help him balance.

His sleep is worse than ever and he is back to bring up every two hours. With his teeth coming in I have given in rather than listen to him cry, so it's partially my fault for not sticking with it. My goal is to get him to his own room this month and down to one night feeding. He's a chunky guy and definitely doesn't need to eat, it's more of a soothing thing for him and he just wants to be with me all the time. He's a mommas boy for sure although he has settled in pretty well with daddy now and rolls over in our bed in the morning to bat at his face and wake him up.

Happy 6 months D, here's to hoping the second six months of this year has a lot less crying. I didn't get too many good photos as D wasn't cooperating but I think he crying photo is actually perfect to show this side of him plus you can see his tooth and I'll use it to remind him when he is older. I'll snap some more photos for 6 months this week but I wanted to be sure I at least got a few today.

Adventures in babysitting

Tio Bo and Tia Mari volunteered to babysit for the kids so Juan and I could go out. I'm not one to pass up free babysitting so of course I said yes. Juan and I had a nice evening out to dinner and a movie and left the kids home. Bo and Mari had an adventure. The dogs were acting crazy barking at them and Diego cried on and off all night. Luckily Callie was behaved; 1 out of 4 "kids" in our house. Thanks so much to Bo and Mari for giving us a night out and sorry for all the noise. Hope your ears recover and our kids improve for another adventure ;)
