Pediatrician Update

Dr Houkum called us back today and she thinks since Callie is doing somewhat better that the medicine is working and to give her more time to get accustomed to it. So we will call her again next Monday and give her another update. She recommended giving it to her in the evening before she gets in her frantic upset stage to see if we can prevent her getting that far. We are also trying harder to work on getting her to sleep lying down on her own, which hasn't been going too well. Today she was incredibly fussy but has not thrown up at all, I guess that counts as a successful day. Daddy finally got her to lay down on her own and sleep. Here she is all curled up on her side on the boppy lounger pillow in the blanket her Tia Norma knitted her sitting next to me on the couch. I know it's not on a flat mattress in her bassist without a blanket but we will take it as a small win :)

And in a late update 20 min later she has rolled onto her back and is still sleeping!! Big win!

Curls and rolls

Callie gets crazy hair no matter how many times I brush, wash, fix it in a day. She gets sweaty head when she is crying and frantic and then rubs her head all crazy ways to make it even crazier. Here it is this morning after I tried to fix it. She had a bath late yesterday afternoon too. It tends to get curly when it gets wet but not in a nice controlled way, just in a frizzy mess!
Also you may notice she is packing on the pounds with her double chin and chubby cheeks! She is definitely gaining weight since she is throwing up less. She also eats more and when she throws up she will just eat again, lucky for her I'm the never ending supply of milk :)

Happy Mothers Day

Today was my first Mothers Day. Callie must have known it was Mothers Day because she was extra well behaved. :)
Early in the morning we got to see family from back home on FaceTime and Skype. We saw and talked to GG and grandpa, great grandparents GaGa, Ash, Pa & Kay, and uncle Eddie.
Then we had a full day between breakfast with Nicky and Hunter and an afternoon BBQ with the Chavez family.
Callie had her first bottle with grandma and spent lots of quality time just snuggling with her grandparents and aunt and uncle.
Thanks for all the mothers day wishes, we had a great day and are looking forward to many many more to come.

Three Weeks Old

Today Callie is 3 weeks old!  She is getting big, which is good considering she throws up quite a bit of everything she eats.  But don't cry over spilled milk. Callie has still been throwing up several times a day.  We are at least down to single digits from double digits of puking. She still cries several hours a night and we can't lay her down flat without her vomiting. We are working towards getting the reflux under control but so far I don't think this is it.  We will call the pediatrician Monday and hope she has some more options for us. We are all exhausted and very tired. This is Callie's favorite sleeping spot, upright on your chest. Manny likes to get in on the snuggle action too :)

First Bottle

Callie had her first bottle today with Daddy.  She did a really good job and Dad made sure she didn't get too much air because her reflux has still been really bad.  She chugged out of the bottle and finished 1.5 oz in a little over 5 minutes. Callie looks pretty happy here with daddy.  I will be thrilled once I can pump more and have some stored that Dad can take over some of the feedings.  I get pretty tired with feedings every 2 hours, a chunk of sleep longer than 2 hours would be heaven!

Mexican Mother's Day

Yesterday was Mexican Mother's Day, it always falls on the same numerical day instead of a Sunday like typical Mother's Day in the US.  Callie and I decided to surprise Grandma and her sisters by bringing flowers and visiting Great Grandma's grave while they were there for prayers and lunch. They sure were surprised, although Callie was screaming as we were walking up so they noticed us from pretty far away.  It was nice to spend time with everyone and let Great Grandma know we were thinking of her.  Callie Maria was named after Great Grandma Maria for her middle name and this was Callie's first visit to her grave.  Great Grandma predicted that I would have a little girl just before she passed and at the time I was skeptical, but only a few weeks later I was pregnant and we later found out it was indeed a girl which is a pretty incredible prediction by her.  We know that she is looking down on us from heaven and protecting and taking care of little Callie. Happy Mother's Day to Grandma and Great Grandma!

Counting chickens

You know the old adage, don't count your chickens before they hatch? Well today it should be don't blog about sleeping and no vomit til you are sure. Callie right on cue decided to go back into a frenzied vomiting stage tonight and has been miserable for hours. I feel terrible for her and her tiny belly. She threw up 6 times in an hour! So back to the drawing board? We will see if this is a pattern and let her pediatrician decide what's next. Let's hope we sleep the rest of the night now I have her sleeping in my arms. I'll try counting sheep instead of chickens...
