When I was a little kid my parents always gave me 12 small presents on the twelve days before Christmas. I can remember waking up in the morning before school excited that I would get to open another present. They were usually small gifts but it was just the excitement. My friends all used to be so jealous and ask what I opened each day. My mom carried that tradition a little long, up until the last few years when I would open socks, deodorant and gum. But now she has a whole new reason to return.... A grandchild. I think it's really cool to have a family tradition like this passed down and am sure Callie will love it too.
The giant box arrived today and Callie got to open her first gift. She was excited for the big box and all the stuffing paper and bags of air filling the box. Please note that she is standing up at the box all by herself! It only lasted 15 seconds maybe. Still rather impressive. Then I let her climb in the box and check them out. We ended up choosing one to open . She had a great time ripping the paper off. She is getting really good so I'm sure by Christmas she will be a pro! Callie ate some of the paper and I had to dig it out of her mouth. She opened a really sweet book, 'twas the night before Christmas, and it reads the story to you as recorded by GiGi!! She thought that was cool and definitely recognized her voice. She was looking around for her then just kept banging the book. What a sweet and thoughtful gift. Callie will have an awesome time opening each gift and looking forward to the next days coming. I hope this tradition becomes special to her just as it was so special to me growing up. GiGi and Gramps thanks for all the memories and for helping create new ones with twelve days of Christmas for Callie. We love you lots and wish you were here to open them with us. We will be listening to you read us the book for many days to come I'm sure.
