Time for a bottle

Things just can't seem to turn around for me this week. After a rough start to the week I spent yesterday in the ER with a lot of bleeding and issues. I will spare you all the details as it was a disaster but after my trip to the ER it was determined my bleeding was not a major issue or causing too much loss of blood but I need to take some medication for a day to help my uterus recover and stop bleeding. The medication insert specifically says the drug transfers via breastmilk to the infant and can have negative side effects. After a lot of research and talking to several doctors I decided not to breastfeed for the time while I need the medication. While the risk is low that it will cause harm to Diego it's just not a risk I am willing to take. I hadn't started pumping and storing milk since I didn't plan on giving him a bottle this young. Luckily for me and Diego I have the most fabulous sister in law who is willing to share some milk with us for the day. Diego does great eating out of the bottle and isn't too particular about temperature either. So for 36 hours I will only be bottle feeding and giving myself a chance to recover while I take these drugs. I feel blessed to have Jeana and her willingness to share with us. I can't thank her enough.
Callie also got the chance to give Diego a bottle which has been special for her.
Callie had a great day besides my issues. Callie had a new doc mcstuffins outfit for school today and she was excited to go for once. Then we went with Jeana and Ford to lunch and with all the family for a "pizza party" at La Bella's. Callie just loves this place and it's even better when the whole family comes! Hopefully by tomorrow the heat is coming down, the wildfires are under control and Diego and I are recovering from our issues this week. Phew, it's been a rough few days.

Spreads like wildfire

So today was wildfire day. Diego woke up and spread his eye infection to his other eye which is what we were trying to avoid. Also it was 97 degrees out and there literally is a wildfire in San Diego. I have a sinus cold and my nose is killing me. Everything is just spreading! Ahhh!
On the upside Diego's left eye, the first infected, is already getting better so the ointment is definitely working. Hopefully in a few days this will all be cleared up and Callie will be done with her antibiotics for her ear infection too.
Now we are trying to keep Callie from getting his eye infection as she touches him and puts her face so close to his. As much as we try to explain this to her she just can't grasp why we want her not to touch Her brother and the more we say it the closer she gets. If she catches it we will just have two kids on eye cream....
Here she is reading to him this morning and rocking him. She feels bad about his eye boo boo as she calls it. Also Diego had his first "bath" today. Really it was just a rinse off in the bathtub but it's the closet thing to a real bath he has had so far. He had a pretty good day considering and has been a happy boy today.

Happy Mothers Day (a belated post)

Some of you I'm sure are wondering where I have been and why I haven't posted anything especially on Morhers Day. Well I was too exhausted to get around to it as it's been a rough few days. Diego started to get a really goopy crusty eye which got worse and worse. Saturday night he barely ate for 12 hours and I was so worried about him. He did a bit better Sunday but with the eye crust, fussiness and swelling/redness we were worried. The after hours pediatrician line had us bring him in to Children's ER last night. They were great at getting us in and out as fast as possible considering how little he is and how many sick kids are in the ER. They sent us home saying it was likely just a blocked tear duct and to do warm compresses and follow up with the pediatrician today. He was already scheduled for his circumcision today so we just went in for that to see the dr. We were lucky to have been randomly scheduled with the director of pediatrics and a doctor I have worked with personally through work for years. He is not sure if the tear duct is blocked but thinks its possible it is not. BUT he Definately has an eye infection that has to be treated. Treatment is antibiotic ointment and breast milk in the eye several times a day for 5 days. By the time we got in he couldn't even open his eye and there was so much gunk coming out. I felt so bad for him. And to add to the torture he still had his circumcision today. Yikes! Rough day for Diego and me. Hopefully he is feeling better by tomorrow.
However on the upside of my time, we still had a great Mother's Day. I am blessed with two perfect kids, the most amazing mom, and an awesome mother in law who all spent the morning with me. We had brunch and enjoyed each other's company. I was very tired but still enjoyed my morning. No mom wants to be in the ER in Mother's Day but I am just thankful that my kids are ok. Mother's Day is about being a mom and hopefully I succeeded in doing the best I could for my kids for the day.
I'm hoping to sleep like a rock tonight, so I hope Diego is feeling ok.

Here Comes GiJu

Callie has a book called here comes Grandma about a grandma coming to visit and se comes on all different modes of transportation. Callie likes to read it when we talk about GiJu coming to visit. We've been talking about her coming for so long and today she finally got here! Callie couldn't be happier. She immediately wanted to see what she brought in her suitcases. Of course lots of toys for Callie. He spent all afternoon playing with new toys and being with her GiJu. She even shared and let her hold Diego too! We are so glad to have GiJu here for a few weeks to help out and visit.

Football Party

Juan convinced Callie that they were having a football party tonight for the draft. In reality grandpa, tio, Sean and Jorge came over for dinner and to watch the draft. She was all excited and talking about it although she didn't think it was too cool come draft time. She was acting out and not behaving at all! This wasn't really very fun but by bedtime she calmed down. I snapped a photo of her and Diego in their Charger gear anyways.
Callie also got to play with her new water cooler TiaNorma got her. She had so much fun just filling cups and pouring water. She got soaking wet but that's half the fun! Thanks Tia wow wow!

Ford or Diego

Callie is still so confused about what her brothers name is. She calls him Fordy 99% of the time or about 100 times a day. I thought if she saw them both together it might clear up the name issue when she can see there are 2 babies. I'm not sure it helped as she still calls Doego Fordy but at least they were super cute sleeping together :)

Showing off as big sister

Callie went back to school today. She wanted to bring Diego with her which obviously wasn't happening. She wanted to tell her teacher and her classmates about Diego. I decided it would be nice for her to take some photos with her. We didn't have any printed yet but I quickly printed some off on regular paper from our printer and laminate them for her to bring to school. I got one good one of them snuggling this morning when she said she wanted to bring him with her.
Other than that Diego is generally a quiet sleepy baby. He sleeps and eats and poops a ton!! He is having a little trouble with feedings and gas as my milk is coming in way to strong and fast which is uncomfortable for both of us. Hopefully we work out our feeding balance quickly so we both are more comfortable. I think this sums up his feelings...
