Two Months Old and Two Years Old

Diego is two months old today. It's been an interesting and busy two months and not as quiet as I had imagined, but the adventure is still fun. Luckily he is darn cute because he sure can be noisy and crabby. He's growing bigger everyday and we all are learning to function as a family of four. Callie is learning to be a gentle loving and helpful big sister, although we still have a way to go. I am learning to divide my attention and keep two kids happy. Some people say this is like juggling, I say it's like spinning plates. You just try to keep all the plates spinning but when there are too many things to manage you let the least important plate drop and you can pick up the pieces later. That's how I figure my life works these days. Someone is always crying and needs me, but I just have to attend to what's most urgent first. Anyways, it's not always bad, it's just really busy.

Back to updates.. 

Diego-  Can smile when you talk to him, coos back at you, can open and close his hands and bats at toys. He weighs over twelve pounds and wears size 3 month clothes and moved up to size 2 diapers. He sleeps in 2 hour bouts because he is always hungry. The longest he has ever slept is 3 hours and so that means that's the longest I slept in 2 months as well. Diego likes to sleep sitting up as he still has reflux and pukes if you lay him down, however this has improved with my dairy free diet.

Callie- At 2 years and 2 months she is now pretty close to potty trained. She wears underpants all day at home with less than one accident a day. Tomorrow will be her first day at school in underpants which could be harder as she gets distracted. I sewed her some underwear with extra absorbent lining and a waterproof layer. It won't be accident free but hopefully if she tinkles a little she won't need a huge clean up by school staff just a change of underpants and maybe pants. Today she peed in the potty at the park, her school, target, and the restaurant at dinner AND she pooped in the potty at home without any help! I'm so proud of her. She is still really young to be potty trained but I'm convinced by next week we will be there outside of sleeping times.

I snapped photos of the kids together and separate today. Turns out it's pretty hard to get two small kids to look good at the same time, who knew? I also threw in one I snapped on my cell phone of Diego's smile and a few left from the weekend I forgot to share.

A rough 2 month checkup

Today was Diego's 2 month checkup. Callie went with us to have her shoulder checked and the doctor feels her infection is gone and she is done with her medicine. That was the good news. Diego had an ok visit, basically short, average weight and giant head. No really, 17th percentile length(1'10"), 59th percentile weight(12 lb 7 oz) and 83rd percentile for head circumference (15.8"). I think he is actually taller than that but it's hard to measure when they squirm and scrunch. He got Tdap/Hib/polio combo vaccine today. I split up all the vaccines than the usual which is a total of 4 shots/7+ vaccines based on that Callie had reactions to vaccines before we knew she had food allergies. The doctor is really nice about it and offered to split up today's into separate vaccines as well but it's almost always given as one so I went ahead with that one. Well bad idea.... After I returned to work Diego had a big red swollen leg with rash and was screaming bloody under in pain and wouldn't stop not even to eat. I left work and brought him back to the doctor right away. I was able to reach her by phone from the car through the emergency line and she wanted to see him in the office. We gave him some Tylenol and it started to subside but was still a big red lump very swollen and the screaming wouldn't stop. They gave him more Tylenol and we waited in the office for an hour. They measured the lump when we started at over 5 cm in length! Eventually he settled down enough to eat and the bump has gone down most of the way. He is still incredibly fussy and crying a lot (even more than normal if you can imagine). I feel terrible for him and feel like I should have split every single vaccine up and dragged them out forever but it's too late now. A second doctor came to see him as well and they aren't sure exactly what the reaction is, but it's an adverse reaction to the vaccine, likely the Tdap portion or he preservative. It could be a local reaction or an IgE true allergic response (minor since breathing wasn't effected). They will report it to the CDc as an adverse reaction and we are just watching him for a few days to see how he does before we decide on future vaccines. Since it wasn't a life threatening reaction we will still proceed with vaccines but cautiously and giving him Tylenol before each vaccine. Hopefully he starts feeling better soon, but it was a rough day for us both. I'm hoping for some sleep but realize we may be walking and rocking and snuggling all night. The prescription for improvement is Tylenol, snuggles and love with a little patience on the side. Poor little man :(

Saying Bye to PaPa Ed

PaPa Ed had to go back to CT this morning. We were so glad to have him for the week but it went too fast. He left this morning really early before Callie was up. The good news is she is old enough now to understand how it works when GiJu and PaPa come and go back home and so there is no crying anymore. She is excited already talking about going to their house on the plane in August.

Yesterday on our last day together we went out for breakfast in the harbor and played on the playground. She has so much fun with her PaPa. Love you lots, see you in August!

Ford & Diego's Dedication

Yesterday we celebrated in dedicating Ford and Diego to be raised in God's family. It was a special ceremony for so many reasons. We are so lucky and blessed to have Tio Bogar to officiate all our families special events. It is so intimate to have it catered to our family in words but also in love and warmth. Bogar has been there for every family moment for is, from our wedding to Diego's dedication. It was also special because Ford and Diego got to share the day and be dedicated together, another tying bond for these two who I know will be best buds. I was lucky enough to have my dad in town visiting and Tia Nena flew in from Monterey so we had a lot of love from all around.

The weather was beautiful and it was a fabulous day. Diego cried quite a bit as he was having a rough day but I told him God loves him even if he cries through the ceremony ;)

Callie had so much fun playing with her older cousins and is still asking when she can play with them again. I think I found some new babysitters.

Riding the escalator

We ran some errands today to get ready for Diego's dedication tomorrow. While at the mall Callie spotted the escalator. She thinks this is so fun so I let her go up and down one time with PaPa. I think her face says it all such intense focus

Drinking Buddies

Jeana made the boys matching shirts this week, so when we were out at LaBellas last night we took advantage of having them together and took a photo. Callie insisted on getting in too. I bet they will think this is pretty funny when they are 21!

A day with PaPa

Callie was so excited to spend a whole day with her PaPa. She couldn't leave his side for a minute and everything was no, not mommy today, papa will do it. She didn't give him a break even banging on the bathroom door while he took a shower. We went out for breakfast then went to the zoo. Since PaPa was with us at the zoo we braved walking all the way to the far side of the zoo. I never leave the front side since it's such a long walk. We saw bears, elephants, and polar bears. We took the Skyfari for the first time back to the front as we were all tired from walking. Callie couldn't stay awake in the car even when I was talking to her, tickling her and keeping her awake until we got home so she could nap in her bed. I think that means she had too much fun ;)
